Did you know that 85% of jobs are filled by networking? In fact, 8 in every 10 jobs aren’t even advertised.

You might not even know you’re ‘networking’ when you are. Have you told someone else about a job or has someone referred you to a customer? That’s all a part of networking.

Connecting with people in and outside of your trade can make or break your career. It could lead you to hear about bigger contracts or new opportunities in your area. And it doesn’t need to be hard.

Get connected to other tradies

Matt Cooper, a plasterer from Launceston said that he’s gotten all of his jobs in the last 12 months through word-of-mouth. He believes that connecting with people you’ve never even met can make a huge difference in your career.

When I first started out 10 years ago, I was making phone calls and introducing myself to anyone I thought would hire me. It would have been so much easier to use an app like goodwork to connect with builders in my area.

Get ahead with a bit of support

Help each other out

Rob Brugmans has been building his professional network on goodwork for 3 years. He’s used it to find work from other trades and connect with his fellow plumbers to talk shop. Recently, he’s been able to offer jobs to other plumbers who have been stood down due to COVD-19 restrictions.

If you have a good network, and you know someone who’s struggling — then you can help them. To me, that’s more important than anything.
